Watercolor Wings thanks to Brian King

I was so inspired by Brian Kings recent card and he used Sahara Sand and Pink Pirouette - It took my breath away - and I am not one to like Pink at all - but I just loved his card and it inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and use some colours that I don't feel comfortable with.

Here is the card that resulted -

I am very happy with the result! The Sentiment is from the new One Big Meaning set

As I was making the card - I really felt like I was channeling my inner Louise Sharp whose designs I admire greatly.

Here is a one with colour inspiration ready to pin to Pinterest

Tips and Tricks (measurements are metric):

I have layered this on an A4 sheet of Sahara Sand cut in half at 10.5cm so that you have a top hinge card - then I have a layer of Very Vanilla cut at 9.8cm x 14.2cm, then a layer of Pink Pirouette cut at 9.5cm x 13.9cm, then the last layer of vanilla is 9.2cm x 13.6cm.

The layer with the sentiment on it. The Sahara Sand is stamped with the dots from the Watercolor Wings stamp set. It is 2.5cm in width and 9.2cm wide. The next layer is the Very Vanilla and is 1.6cm x 9.2cm - then the last layer of Pink Pirouette with the dots stamped on it is 1.3cm x 9.2cm and then the sentiment is 1.1cm in width on the Very Vanilla and used Sahara Sand to stamp the sentiment and snipped the banner.

A Big tip that I can give you with this card is that you are working with millimeters!! So making sure everything is straight can be a seriously big challenge. Take your time with each layer and don't be afraid to pull it off and make another layer if it is ruined. Otherwise the overall look of the card will be ruined.

The butterfly is challenging to get straight with this pattern - so take your time with that as well. The dots under the butterfly I rotated to give it a less structured pattern and more natural.

If you have any other questions about the card please don't hesitate to ask - and if any of our friends in America come up with measurements that work in your area I would love to see your card and get the measurements to share here on my blog.

  2. I'm from Wisconsin, USA. For my cards I use 4 1/4 " x 11" folded to 5 1/2" for my base. The next layer would be 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" (your vanilla layer). The pink layer would be 4" x 5 1/4". And the last vanilla layer would be 3 7/8 x 5 1/4". I'm assuming that the brown strip would be 1" and the pink 7/8". With the banner being 3/4". Hopefully this helps!

LOVE your card idea and these colors!
